Put Your Glasses On And Keep 'Em On!
The struggle is here, y’all! I was warned. I knew it was coming. I just didn't expect I would be soooo young when it finally did happen, haha.
I have reached the age of fumbling between wearing reading glasses and regular glasses. Thus, I find myself losing either pair on a regular basis.
A couple of weeks ago, I was searching the house for my regular glasses because I had taken them off to read and couldn't remember where I had laid them. As I am looking, my son holds up a pair of glasses sitting next to him, but I had to explain that those were my reading glasses, and I needed my seeing glasses. Confusion was marked all over his face as I continued blindly trying to find my regular pair of glasses.
(sigh) Aging is fun!
As I was sitting at my dining room table one day, processing this whole new life struggle, I was hit with an interesting revelation.
So many people are walking around blind to their need for Jesus.
Follow me for a minute.
When I’m not wearing my glasses, my reality is not reliable. It’s not until I put my glasses on that I can see things for what they truly are. I remember getting my first pair of glasses as a kid. I put them on, and instantly everything went from looking hazy and blurry to clear and new! There was a beautiful distinction and form to everything that used to just blend together. It was a sight I can’t quite explain and will never forget.
Looking at this from a spiritual perspective, it’s just as true.
The Bible says when we accept Jesus, old things pass away and all things have become new. As we put on our new man and our minds are renewed by God’s Truth, we begin to see things more clearly. Before, everything was uncertain and confusing, and it left us feeling hopeless and lost.
But with Jesus, there is no confusion, only clarity. He is the only One Who can show us how to walk through this life. There is no other way. He gives us vision. He makes our crooked paths straight. He shows us the way and tells us to walk in it.
Jesus says in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
We must have Jesus to see the way because He is the way.
This world was created by God and His Word. Yet people are trying to create a life apart from Him, even though the whole reason they have life is because of Him. They are looking for that one answer that will make their life worth living, fighting the fact that the answer will only ever be Jesus.
I have been reading the Gospels in the Bible lately, and I am finding that Jesus was constantly coming against people who couldn't see Him for Who He really was. He performed miracle after miracle. Through Him, prophetic words came to life. Yet, He still fought against disbelief, especially from the people who should have recognized Him.
He was the very One that the religious people had been taught about for generations! He was right in front of them, and because He didn’t look like what they thought He would, they rejected Him. The very one that they should have been worshipping, they killed.
Can you imagine?
Creating something so big and grand in your mind that when it comes in a simple and humble form, you're too blinded by your own prideful expectations that you can’t see the truth.
Living in this world, it amazes me how opposed people are to God’s Truth.
God’s message is all about love. Period.
Yes, in that love, there are also commandments we must follow, but they are not to cause harm. They are put in place because He loves us and wants us to live free!
I know that may seem counterintuitive, but it is true.
When it comes to our kids, we, as their parents, have restrictions for them. This is not to lord our power over them; it is to keep them safe. It is because we love them and want them to live a long, full, healthy life. Of course, they would rather be able to run free wherever they want without restraint, but we know that would only cause them serious harm. I mean, can you imagine, toddlers running around wherever and however they want? It would be chaos.
And yet, I am realizing more and more that this world is full of grown toddlers running around blind to the danger of doing whatever they want, however they want. There has to be order. There have to be rules, and God gave all of that to us for our benefit, not to control us, but to free us!
I know this may have been an obvious revelation, but as I have been walking around struggling to find my vision physically, I have also been doing this spiritually. I am constantly wondering if I am still on the right path and making sure I haven't wandered off into LaLa Land. Did I miss a sign warning me I was going the wrong way? Am I going too fast or not fast enough? Am I even moving at all?
What I have found is that when things in life get blurry, it’s because I am trying to do things my own way without consulting the Lord. When I get into the "I have to figure everything out" mode, that's my cue that I'm trying to control things that I have no control over to begin with. Thus, I need to pray, be quiet, be patient, and trust that God will make all things clear in their time.
With my business, I had a grand plan about how it all was going to be, and because it hasn’t looked like what I thought it would, I am questioning and doubting everything.
What I need to do is get my spiritual glasses on and see that God is with me, still walking with me, keeping me steady, and anything I need to see or know will be clear in its time! I’m not going to have to guess or figure out the next move. God will show me the way, and I simply need to take it one step at a time.
So let me ask you, friend.
Does any of this resonate with you? Does your path look clear or fuzzy? Are you reading the warning signs and staying on His path, or are you walking around blindly trying to find your own way?
If you feel lost, read your Bible. It’s your road map! If you still feel you need direction, pray and ask Jesus. He will let you know what to do when it's time. Just don't get restless while you wait. One of the hardest things to do is wait. The worst thing to do is rush it because you know what the Bible says about waiting, don't you?
"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
It's God's way or no way, friend, because it truly is the best way!
So, Imma tell you like my momma used to tell me, put your glasses on and keep ‘em on because then and only then can you see The Way.
