It's Not That Easy.
As a kid, I thought being an adult would be so easy. I could do whatever I wanted, be whatever I wanted, and go wherever I wanted whenever I wanted. What I found out was that it’s not that easy.
Then as I grew up, I decided to follow the Lord and live my life according to His Word. I thought that by doing this, my life would be calm and full of bliss. What I found out was that it’s not that easy.
In my adulthood, I found someone I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, and we ended up getting married. I had always dreamed of getting married and being deeply in love for the rest of my life. We would ease into growing old together and have a house full of children, grandchildren, and all the joy and laughter that comes with that. What I found out was that it’s not that easy.
Several years into our marriage, we decided it was time to have children. Before having kids, I had plans of what I would and wouldn’t do when it came to raising them. After we had them, however, those things quickly changed. What I found out was that it’s not that easy.
I think we all go through times in our lives when reality knocks us off our high horse and shows us, well, reality. Most of the time, we make judgments based on a narrative that sees what it wants to see until we realize we don’t know it all, like we think we do, and our grand plan becomes a jumbled mess.
What about you?
What in your life has busted up your LaLa Land and turned it into Nightmare on Easy St.? If it hasn’t happened yet, wait.for.it.
I don’t say any of this to be a downer, Debbie. I say it to encourage you. Yes! I want to encourage you to stay close to the Lord because while we don’t know it all, He does!
Living this crazy life that continually throws wrenches at us when we least expect it is NOT easy! I would love to go back to that sweet little girl I once was and tell her that. Maybe then I wouldn’t have built up so many extravagant expectations.
However, I don’t regret any of it. I don’t regret anything I went through or how I went through it. I appreciate it all as lessons learned. I may not have gone to college, but I have definitely been schooled by life.
We all have. We may not have studied like we were supposed to and bombed tests, but we are all still passing through our lessons because we have the best Teacher there is. He is so patient and calm. His teaching plans are individually perfected, and He doesn’t give us what we are not ready for. I have learned many times that what I think I am ready for, I am not even close to being ready for!
Often I have heard it said, “I don’t know how people survive this world without the Lord.”, and it’s so true. I don’t even want to get out of bed on my own, but I know He has a plan for the day because I woke up, so I get up!
Here’s reality: Life is not easy, and it never will be.
This is why we have to live it with the Lord. He sees what we don’t. He knows what we don’t and has a plan when we don’t. When our world has been turned upside down, He has a plan.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13
If your life looks nothing like you thought it would, it’s o.k. God’s got a plan, and it’s a good plan. All you have to do is stick to it. How do ya do that?
Start by reading the Bible; it has all the answers you need. If you get stuck, just raise your hands and ask the Teacher. He’ll help ya.
It’s that easy. ;)
"You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail." Proverbs 19:21
