I love when I go outside to find the sky filled with gray clouds and the smell of the rain comes rolling in. It makes me so happy! Immediately, I want to get back in bed, curl up, and get cozy.
It reminds me of a story I once heard of a little girl that had a near death experience. She was very young and she became very ill. Her parents rushed her to the hospital and her heart stopped beating at one point. Miraculously the doctors were able to revive her and after staying in the hospital a while, she was able to go back home to live her life as a healthy little girl.
One day, her family was at an outdoor baseball game and she was playing around on the bleachers. The weather started to take a turn and the sky started to get cloudy. All of the sudden, the little girl stopped in her tracks and just stood as still as possible in shock. Her mother noticed and asked her what was wrong. In her sweet, innocent way, eyes wide with excitement, she said, “It smells like Jesus!”
She began to explain to her mother when she was in the hospital, she met Jesus and gave Him a hug. The smell of the incoming rain instantly reminded her of that moment with Him.
I heard that story years ago and it has stayed with me all this time because I have always loved the smell of rain. Anytime its smell fills the air I’ll stop whatever I am doing, stand still, take in a deep breath and whisper,, “It’s Jesus.” It’s a refreshing reminder that even though a storm is coming and chaos may be looming, He is filling the air with His peace.
Whether you are in a storm physically or spiritually, take a deep breath, stand still in the middle of it and know “It’s Jesus!” . He is right there with you, holding you, and letting you know everything is going to be alright.
