I love camping!!!
It’s been a while since I’ve went…like years! I have been raising 2 little boys and they are both now at the age when I feel comfortable taking them.
It was amazing. We only lasted a night, but it was long enough for our first time. I didn’t want to ruin the whole thing by overstaying their tolerance level. Small doses. 🙂
I had never gone camping when I was in charge of everything. I was in charge of having everything, packing everything, setting everything up, cooking everything, taking everything down, and packing everything back up. Needless to say it was a lot for one night of camping, but oh so worth it.
I got everything set up before sunset, we went to the grocery store, bought all our food, and even had sushi for dinner in our tent. It was so sweet! Going to bed and waking up to the sounds of nature and a beautiful owl cooing was what I have been dreaming about for YEARS! I loved sitting by the campfire watching my youngest ride around on his bike just singing at the top of his lungs. We were right by a park and the boys just ran around free and careless! I can’t believe I waited so long to do something that brings me so much joy. It was everything I have needed and wanted to experience with my kiddos.
I know camping isn’t for everyone, but it’s such a neat way to become appreciative of the little things, haha. We stayed in a tent with no electricity by a bathroom with no shower. I brought a couple of generators to cook with, but my little griddle was too powerful so to the campfire I went. Making the fire took me forever! For breakfast I had bacon, eggs, coffee, and hot chocolate to make. It started out well. I even took a picture as proof. Soon after the bacon went up in flames and came out a little well done, ha!
Still, it was a memory we will always have together.
That’s what life is about. It’s about having experiences and making memories, even messy ones. It seems the messier the experience the more it’s remembered. It’s easy to get in the normal routine of life and forget to live. There always seems to be an excuse as to why we don’t do what brings us joy. Life is meant to be enjoyed. It’s meant to get messy. It’s meant to get in the muck of it while figuring out how to stay calm and relax. When we finally do it, we wonder why we didn’t do it sooner.
That’s exactly what happened. I made a plan. Things didn’t go according to the plan and that was o.k. We went. We stayed. We ate burnt bacon. I went fishing! We smelled stinky. Then came home and appreciated our easily accessible toilet, shower, and air conditioning. Success!
