I find so much peace sitting in the dark!
Everything is turned off, everyone is sleeping, and I am sitting. Living in a world that is so fast paced, shutting it all down seems necessary.
Whether it’s sitting on my couch or on my porch, I turn all the lights out and just sit. It’s crazy how quiet it gets when the kids are asleep and the traffic has died down. Noise is everywhere and when it’s not, it’s amazing!
It reminds me when the Bible talks about Jesus getting up in the early morning hours to go and pray. I get it now. I know people that when things get still they get nervous. If it’s too quiet they have to turn something on to fill in the space. I have found myself quite the opposite. It may have something to do with the season I am in too. As a working mom, my name gets called all day long. So to sit with no one needing me is a rarity that I treasure.
How about you?
What season are you in? How do you refill yourself after being drained from life’s daily demands?
Of course we are all different and what I do would probably be someone else’s nightmare. If you don’t have something you do to recharge, you need to find something…quickly.
I have found getting out in nature also helps revive my mind. Exercising is also good for the brain. Whatever it is, find your peace and fight for it. Give yourself time throughout the week to give back to yourself because we all know we can’t pour into anyone else if our cup is empty.
This reminds me of an old hymn we used to sing in church:
Fill my cup, Lord.
I lift it up, Lord.
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of Heaven, feed me ’til I want no more.
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole.
Here’s my cup, fill it up and make me whole.
