I found a beautiful spot on the beach that I love to go to when I just want to reflect. The ground is covered in shells. One day as I was looking around I found a sweet, little one that somehow fastened itself to a rock. As I looked at the shell and rock, they were no longer two separate things. They had become one. There wasn’t a wave strong enough to separate them. One wasn’t going anywhere without the other. They were inseparable. I was immediately reminded of the scripture in Matthew where Jesus was talking about the wise man who built his house on the rock.
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24-25
It’s interesting to read in the scripture that the builder didn’t just have to hear God’s instruction, the builder had to actually do what God was saying. I think of Noah and the ark. Noah couldn’t just hear what God was telling him to build in order to be saved from the storm. Noah had to actually BUILD it. He had to put into action what God was saying so that when the rains fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on the ark, it would not be destroyed.
You, friend, may be going through a really hard time right now. You may be in that place where you feel the rain will never end. Know this…it will. Your weeping may endure for the night, but joy will come. You have to seek God in these moments. Seek the voice of your Father. He has a way to help you. As you listen and do what He says, your foundation will be built rock by rock. Your foundation will become unshakeable to the storms that come and you will stand. Your faith will stand. The sun will shine again.
Be as the shell and rock. Become one with Him. Inseparable. Founded on the Rock.
